1.The main character in the Movie The Bicycle Thieves is the owner of the prop, which is a bike. The importance of this bike is significant to the main character because it represent obtaining a job. Ricci is hardworking husband and caring father from the beginning of the movie, when Ricci pawned his bike in order to meet the needs of his family. The bike being pawned and his wife Maria having to pawn their own bed sheets, shows that the family is in a lower class status. Ricci life takes a drastic turn when his bike is stolen, because he knows that he can only have a stable job with his transportation of the bike. Bruno, his son joins him on a quest to find the bike, and go through difficult situations along the way. These situations test Ricci character of desperation by committing a crime to steal another poor man’s bike. He gets caught and is humiliated in front of his son, whom begs police to let him go. The way his wife is dressed compared to what a rich family during that time dressed made it obvious to their poverty. The film is realistic because it shows the economy need and high unemployment rate of the town taken place. The high amount of unemployment also, indicates that this country may be going through a war or just finished a war. Therefor, the setting taken place is a form of realism. The director also, uses real people instead of actors to create an illusion of reality. 4.While watching the film I noticed that people are populated with workers in the town of Rome. The crowds are used as blocking, because whenever Ricci is looking for his bike or enters the church there are huge crowds surrounding him. For example, when he gets caught stealing the bike, many working males were attentive to their surroundings when it happened and all approach him vigorously.
