The Bible: The Reliability Of The Bible

Improved Essays
Reliability of the Bible One of the most important, and most common question that non-Christians ask as they look at Christianity is if the Bible is reliable. The reliability of the Bible has been challenged throughout the course of history. Even though there are numerous amounts of evidences in the Bible of it being reliable, many people still choose to deny it. This essay will look into three reasons why the Bible is reliable and show evidences that correlate with the reasons. The Bible talks about the author’s and heroes failures throughout their life. One example is when Moses had an outburst of anger, misrepresented God and was not allowed to enter the promised land. “Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the rod; you and …show more content…
So Moses took the rod from before the Lord as He commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” (Numbers 20:7-12) These verses state that Moses didn’t do what God exactly instructed him to do and that Moses didn’t believe with all his heart what God was going to do. Another example is when Noah got drunk shortly after getting of the ark. “And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent.” (Genesis 9:21) This verse is talking about how even though Noah just experienced a 40 day and night Flood and trusted in God, he still …show more content…
One example is Jesus’s life, which is foretold in the Old Testament hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth. The Old Testament foretold the city in which He would be born, “But you, bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” (Micah 5:2) That He would come while the temple was still standing “Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of hosts.” (Malachi 3:1) That He would be born of a virgin “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14) That He would perform miracles “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.” (Isaiah 35:5-6) That He would be rejected by His own people “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone” (Psalms 118:22) The precise time in when He would die (Daniel 9:24-26) How He would die “And I will pour on the house of David and on the

Moses apparently had a problem with speaking to an inanimate (lifeless or non living) object and expecting anything to happen from just your spoken words. I’ll bet you a lot of Christians are still like Moses today. God was trying to teach His servant Moses a valuable lesson about the spiritual law of words. Proverbs 18:21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Death & life are in Words that have authority and power behind them (God created the earth with His word).…

Of all the great events in Moses’ life, there is one time period that is probably the most important—his time in Midian. Moses had grown up in the palaces of Egypt from a young age. He knew what it was to have much, and it was probably an extremely good life. Egypt was never known for being the poorest among nations in history, so it stands to reason that Moses, who was adopted into the royal family, had much. However, one simple act brought about a huge change in Moses’ life.…

Many Scholars in our world today and before don't believe that the Bible is reliable. Many of them say it's because the time Gap was so big. Also, some say that the authors of the Gospel don't identify themselves in their own writings thus they might not have existed. In order to prove that they were real and you can rely on the Bible I am going to back up these claims "Has the document been reliably transmitted, was the document first written close to the events it describes, and is the document able to be corroborated by multiple external sources? Has the document been reliably transmitted or copied?…

Conversation Analysis I think for a first-touch apologetic conversation, this one went as well as could be expected. My goal in this conversation was not to present every counter-argument to her worldview or generate some kind of proof to win her over instantly to the Gospel. I hope that this is the first of several conversations about faith, and therefore I didn’t try to “close the deal.” My goal was to understand better how she sees the world, what aspects of her background have influenced that worldview, and any lingering questions she might have about faith or the world that I might, from a Christian perspective, be able to speak into in the future. Specifically, I think the conversation went well because, throughout our dialogue,…

Although most people read the Bible and have many questions about how and why certain things happened, most never question whether the God that is described remains the same throughout the book. However, if the reader takes a closer look at the behavior and characteristics of “the God”, they would find that there seems to be two distinct Gods, one in Genesis and the other in Exodus, each with complete polar opposite personalities. The God of Exodus has a very different personality from the God of Genesis due to the differing way the two dole out punishments and the different forms of communication each choses to use.…

The Biblical Metanarrative A metanarrative is a story about stories of historical meaning, experience, or knowledge, which offers a society legitimation through the anticipated completion of a master idea. Though people may categorize the metanarrative of the Bible differently, there are four major parts that stand out as someone reads through the Bible. There will be some repetition of concepts as each one is discussed because each part is so closely related. The first concept will build the foundation for which the following three are built.…

The book, Can We Trust the Gospels, attempts to answer two basic questions that are posed to many Christians at least once in their lifetime: Do the Gospels provide reliable, historical information about Jesus of Nazareth? And do they offer a trustworthy basis for having faith in Jesus Christ? The author, Mark Roberts, is referring to the first four books found in today’s New Testament Bible, not other texts or “gnostic gospels” that are found elsewhere in literature.…

In order to uncover unknown information from an ancient civilization, archeologists usually do extensive digging and research in a specified area; however, to uncover truths about Jesus Christ, there was no removal of dirt, as the world 's most sold book was dug into. Although Christianity continues to be the most popular religion, scholars came together in a Seminar, seeking to find the provable truth, which leads to unpopular conclusions. Throughout the article entitled, The Gospel Truth? by David Van Biema, the question of Jesus and the two lenses through which we see him, faith and history, are explored, conclusions are made, and reactions are instant. Instead of believing by faith and tradition, the Jesus Seminar is an attempt to identify…

In the Bible, the stories of Exodus and Esther stand out due to the implicit parallels between the characters of Moses and Esther. Both Moses and Esther were born Jews and forced to assimilate into other cultures, both were thrust into positions of significant power over a population of people drastically different from themselves (Egyptian and Persian, respectively), and both were charged with the heavy task of freeing their people -- the Israelites / Jews -- from certain oppression and destruction and were ultimately successful in their respective duties. However, these overt parallels beg the question -- between Moses and Esther, who was the more effective leader? In the context of the Bible itself and its persisting relevance in modern…

As Alexander (2012) states, the second division of the Book of Numbers is framed in chapters eleven through twenty, which highlight selected events, chosen by the writer, of the Israelites journey to possess their Promised Land. The common theme, woven into this narrative, is the dynamics and tensions exhibited between this descendant of Abraham and their God. The exploration of this idea, in the second facet of the Book of Numbers, shall take into account relationships between; Israelites and God, Israelites and Moses and Aaron and lastly between the Israelites and people in opposition to their occupying Canaan. The Bible is one of the oldest pieces of literature that exists. It has been written and rewritten in many different languages, with each translation having its own mistakes and contradictions. Not only could some argue that the Bible has been lost in translation, but it does not help that it was also written by many different authors. There is not just one source of the Bible but many. All of these facts bring into question the reliability of the Bible.…
