This readiness leaving believers in a constant state of alertness enabling a greater amount of spreading the gospels. It is our weapon as we fight against the attacks of the Devil, Christians use the Bible’s teachings to defend and battle against the Devil, it is our only offensive weapon and the only way for a Christian to fight back against attacks. Just as a soldier needs to know how to wield a weapon it is crucial that Christians thoroughly understand and be very familiar with the Word of God. Only with knowledge and understanding of the scripture can a person use the given power to stand up against enemies. John MacArthur says in his commentary of Ephesians, “Christian who does not know God’s Word well cannot use it well. Satan will invariably find out where we are ignorant or confused and attack us there. Scripture is not a broadsword to be waved indiscriminately, but a dagger to be used with great precision.” MacAurther elaborates on the importance and use of Gods word when the Devil threatens to attack.
