God chose a man named Abraham to help with this next journey. Once Abraham joined the covenant with God, God called to him and led Abraham away from his family and land he knew, to the land of Canaan. In order to convince Abraham to work with God, He created a covenant and promised to bless Abraham, create a nation out of him, and one day bless all of the ethnics of the world. God trusted God’s promises and through the righteousness of Abraham God blessed he and his wife Sarah with a son, Isaac. God continually presented His promises and time went on. Isaac later had twins, Esau and Jacob. God then decided to choose Jacob to receive the Promised Land, Israel. Due to the large amounts of depravation, Jacob decided to move his family from the land of Canaan to the new growing land, called Egypt. Under the order of the Egyptian ruler, the role Jacob’s family once held as guests, drastically changed to slaves. Unfortunately, their events were not always successful and God’s people began to loose faith and disobey God’s Laws. Prophets were sent to help maintain and lead God’s Laws. Unfortunately, the kingdom of Israel fell due to the lack of rulers who sought out the Lord and lead according to His laws. The land of Judah suffered a time through poor leadership, until a king came to rule that truly loved the Lord and wanted to rule according to His laws. This is when the people began to hear the prophet Micah predict the coming of the promised one.
Jeremiah predicted that the Jewish people would return to the Promised Land after almost seventy years, with a future covenant where the law would be written on the hearts of God’s people and this would result in the forgiveness of sin. Daniel predicted the coming of the Messiah taken place in the New Testament, also known as the chosen one, who would be sacrificed for the sake of all others.
The Old Testament is a truly amazing story of God’s plan and drive to bring the reclamation of man. In the Old Testament we are able to grasp how God was able to choose those who understood the great significance of sacrifice, blood, and the promises He made to Abraham and all the other prophets of God. All of the great, prophets would now be found in the one person who would be the last sacrifice, Jesus
