Exegetical Essay: The Themes Of God

Improved Essays
In the bible there are a number of different themes to try and help us understand more of what God is trying to tell us. In the paper I am going into depth for three of them. The three are, The teaching with pictures, stories, and emotional appeals that succeeds with at least some listeners, The choosing and training of key followers as disciples who will carry on the work after the leader is gone, The importance of a sacrifice whereby the action of one satisfies the debt of another. The first one I chose was the teaching with pictures, stories, and emotional appeals that succeeds with at least some listeners. In Isaiah 53:5 it says, “He was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities…” Isaiah gives a vivid description …show more content…
He told the parable about how an owner of a vineyard sent servants to collect some fruit two times. And both times the tenants of the vineyards killed the servants the owner sent. He sent his son thinking the tenants would respect his son, but they killed him too. Jesus told this story to his listeners to show what would happen to him in his future. You would think people would respect the Son of God but they don’t.
I used this theme first because it is important for us to understand but it is not most important. This theme shows Jesus as a teacher to people and the fact that there is teaching in the Old Testament shows the importance of teaching to God. That we should go out and teach to people in our life.
The Second theme is the choosing and training of key followers as disciples who will carry on the work after the leader is gone. In 2 Kings 2 God told Elijah to go to Elisha to prepare Elisha in the way of a prophet. Elijah would be going to heaven soon so he would need someone to replace him in his ministry. Elisha followed and watched so he could know exactly what Elijah was doing in his ministry. In 2 Kings 2:9 Elisha prays that god will let a double portion of his spirit upon Elisha. There is one indication of God’s answer to Elisha’s prayer is that while Elijah performed seven recorded miracles, fourteen were recorded through

In "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards, Edwards preaches this sermon to prompt his listeners to strengthen their faith in God, by exercising imagery, figurative language, and repetition. In the first place, Edwards utilization of imagery administers the listeners with visualizations of how God rewards the followers for preserving their faith. Edwards conveys, "it is only the power and mere pleasure of God that holds you up. " This exercise allows the listeners to envision how God, an almighty figure, supports people who give their time for God.…

Summary In their book "Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome" authors Kent and Barbara Hughes offer insight to anyone currently involves with or contemplating involvement with church ministry. In the introduction, the husband and wife team tell a story of a pastor that gave into failure and left full-time ministry (Hughes 1987, 9-13). This confusion of success and failure in regards to ministry effects many every day. The team explains that they too almost fell victim to overwhelming feelings of failure in their ministry and their subsequent conquering of these feelings through the truth in God 's word.…

In the reading of “a ban on marketing of foods/beverages to children: the who, why, what and how of a population health intervention” we have Daniel J Dutton et al and the article of “Treat junk food like tobacco” by TU THANH HA, they discuss the serious problems and issues that have to do with children's health . In this breakdown of the texts I will constantly refer to the constant appeals that run through this text that are: Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. I will first break down the appeals of each and once done, I will compare how they might possibly piggyback off of each other and/or conflict.…

Here the pastor brings them deeply into issues, problems, to the point it causes emotion and rises up with the good news that addresses and solves the issues that the pastor presented (Allen Jr., 55). The introduction starts with creating an itch such as ethical issues, sociopolitical situations, personal struggles, or biblical misinterpretations (55). The introduction moves into a deepening descent that uses imagery to deepen the concerns of the hearer, and create an emotional tie in terms of relating with the issue at hand. This continues to the point where the congregation is itching badly for the resolution and good news that alleviates the pressure of worsening human…

Gordon’s purpose in writing The Master Plan of Evangelism was to examine the evangelism principles used by Jesus Christ (called “The Master” by Dr. Gordon in the book) during the days of His flesh. Dr. Coleman emphasizes the fact that his purpose was not to study and write about the methods used by Jesus but rather the principles which governed the methods. The Gospel accounts of Jesus’ evangelistic ministry are the single source used by Dr. Coleman in this volume. Jesus’ plan while He walked the earth was the focused mission of the salvation of the world.…

In order to believe the key doctrines of God, we first must believe that He exist? In addition to asking the previous question, we then must ask, “Which God do we believe in?” As Case (2008, p. 9) presents this question, Christians need to be able to provide a truthful answer, because the Bible tells us in Matthew 6:24 (New International Version), “No one can serve two masters.” Therefore, as a body of believers, we need to reflect on these questions, in order to be able to come up with a precise answer, and to make sure we are not trying to serve God and Satan at the same time.…

Three important themes to consider when reading the Hebrew Bible are God’s relationship with humanity, humanity’s attempt to be like God, and humanity’s disobedience of God. These themes are important in any religious text because they are crucial to understanding the human condition and the purpose of human existence. Genesis reveals how God’s relationship changes because of disobedience, as well as how a desire to be equal to God motivates disobedience. This is important in how it explains the ultimate reason humans sin and how it affects God’s relationship with humanity.…

The Love of God God is the creator of all life and he is the highest of all powers, he embodies all ‘persons’ (The Father, The Son, and The Spirit). Although we cannot be as him, we should try to follow his guidance. In this world, it is easy to get wrapped in earthly things. We are humans, and many of times we fail by trying to hold a certain status, gain certain materialistic possessions, and cause great emotional/physical harm to one another. In my beliefs, that is not the way one should live.…
