When I look back on this day, it was probably the best day of my life. I remember the excitement I felt through my bones, the suspense and thrill of waiting like a child the day before a field trip. I had been waiting so long, counting the days down on my calendar. There was a desperate need to keep this delightful, giddy feeling of childishness with me; it was as if I was scared to lose it. I wanted to feel happy. Having this experience made me feel so blessed, but at the same time, when the event was over, I was more than disappointed. Is it sad that the best day of my life was also the biggest disappointment?
So what actually happened?
It was a chilly day on September 22, 2015, aka my best friend’s birthday (a Tuesday). We had just finished school, buzzing about finally being able to meet our idols after months of waiting. This was the only thing I was looking forward to the whole year... Fast forward a few hours and we are in my father’s car, now on our way to the gloomy city of San Francisco. I had brought my homework along with me so I could finish it, but when you are this anxious, how can you do something as tedious as homework? I have a vivid memory of being near the venue. My friend and I already slipped off our seat belts even though we hadn’t found the location quite yet. “I’m too excited to sit in my seat,” he told me, holding on to the seat in front of him. Just from his voice, I could tell he was as eager to meet them as I was.
