Personal Narrative: A Good Day Of Baseball

Improved Essays
Baseball was the majority of my summer weekends, and I would have it any other way. Long weekends at hotels all across the state from Battle Creek to Frankenmuth, we played baseball where ever it was to be played. But these stages could not prepare me for where I was about to play next. The University of Dayton baseball stadium, the nicest natural field I have ever played on. It was beautiful from the seats, the mound, the outfield wall, it was all gorgeous. Just stepping on to it felt right. My biggest stage to play, and I had my self a good day of baseball, I took advantage of the field and went as hard as I could. Waking up in the hotel at around 6 am to a text from my coach, it read “Chayton you’re pitching today. I need a win so do whatever …show more content…
Every pregame needs to feel, look and operate the same way or I feel like we lost before ever stepping out on to the field. Running through sprints, catching fly balls, fielding grounders all has to be timed. I even have to play catch with the same person before every game, it just feels right knowing that he and I are almost in sync. Every time I start a game on the mound, I need to get a nice 30 pitch bullpen session in. Every pitch is scripted, the pitch, the location, even how hard I throw it is all written in and done the same. This is to consistently pitch at the highest level possible to get the best results out of my arm on every single outing. My mom says I throw too long in the bullpen but I disagree, saying that my arm needs to be an inning ahead of the opposition, allowing me to throw any pitch at any time with …show more content…
Losing to me meant that I played bad, no matter what anyone else told me or what my stat sheet said. A loss was a loss, no matter how much I worked in that game. It meant that thee other players were better than me and I just could not accept that. Even though I pitched off the nicest mound I have ever thrown from, or hit out into the nicest field ever played on, I could not get the loss out of my head. Although I was just one of the nine players to play in the game, I feel like I could have done something more, to get the win my team deserved after playing on the biggest stage of our

As soon as I take a step out on the field, I forget everything outside of baseball. Before every game, I warm up by taking ground balls. During that very special baseball game I was beasting at shortstop. Every time a ball was hit my way I would either catch it or scoop it up off the ground depending on what type of hit it was but if the ball came my way my fans already knew what was going to happen. My fans already knew that I was going to get the batter out or get a double play and most of the time I did. It felt so great knowing that I helped my team achieve excellence and earn victories. My team had a very strong and unstoppable defense and if it wasn't for our teamwork, we wouldn't have had such a successful season.…

Sweat started dripping from my head, I was really nervous. Not only were my hands shaking, but my arm was sore from all the practices I have had. “Push through the pain”, I told myself as I started warming up. Ignoring how fast my heart was beating and how sore my arm was, I started walking towards the pitcher’s position. As I started getting, I could feel all eyes on me.…

I couldn't wait to get back on that field in front of those scouts and show them that I had become a far better player than I was the year before. I had put so much effort into getting better in all aspects of my game and I knew I was poised to have a great tryout. After hours days that felt like years of grueling work in the weight room and in the batting cages, the day had come to tryout to punch my ticket to Long Beach. At that point, I went out on that field and did what I loved to do.…

From that day on, starting each spring for nine years, I was outside practicing to be the best player I could be. Still to this day, even though I don’t play baseball anymore, nothing comes close to the energy and excitement I get from a baseball diamond because my body becomes full of energy, my mind begins to replay player’s actions and nothing seems to break my mind and focus on winning the game. Walking up to the gate my heart starts beating…

When we finally got there the sun was shiny and bright and there was not a cloud in the sky. I went back to the batting cages and found all of my teammates. After we were done with that we went to the field we were playing on to get warmed up. The field we played wasn’t the biggest field I’ve played but it was average. We started warming up and taking some pop flies and once that was over it was time to go.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

If there was one thing I was used to by now, it was that whenever something didn’t go well for me on the baseball field, the future holds green pastures only if I go looking for it. So sure enough, after that loss, I set my eyes ahead to the next season. That final season we had a great start, winning a lot of games, but we ended up barely making the playoff as somewhat of an underdog. We didn’t think about anything that was at stake, we simply played our game all the way to the championship game without a loss in the playoffs. We won the first game of he series and were winning for the majority of the second game.…

The game is about to begin and you can hear the crowd cheering right before the first pitch is thrown, along with your teammates yelling out words of encouragement. You can smell the freshly popped popcorn as well as the hamburgers and hot dogs cooking on the grill. You look up and see the packed stands and a clear visual of the straight line to your catcher, with the umpire right behind him and home plate freshly wiped off. The batter walks up and steps in to the box, right after you take three deep breaths you step on the rubber and zone in, beginning to go through your delivery, left foot goes back, then your left leg lifts up in sync with your arm and you deliver the first pitch, fastball on the outside corner, just what the catcher called, the umpire gives the first call of the game “strike 1” and fans begin to clap. You get the ball back and get back on the mound, your…
