Electricity Vs Wind Energy Essay

Today there are many debates on what we, Humankind, should do about our environmental problems such as pollution, trash disposal, recycling, saving trees, .etc. People have been trying to find more cost effective and efficient mean of producing electricity instead of the use of fossil fuels that hurt the environment and wildlife around us. Each year about 1.7 billion pounds of pollution are pumped into the air a day by coal plants alone, which is quite a lot. But what about Eco-friendly methods of obtaining energy to power houses, commercial, and industrial buildings? Are they as practical and safe for the environment/wildlife as some people say they are? Are they worth investing and developing for the modern world today? Can the world rely …show more content…
One such disadvantage is the visual impact on the land, since they are very large and quite tall to capture the wind, they may not compliment the land very well because they are very obtrusive. Another major disadvantage is that the wind does not always blow, so the wind turbines would be useless if there was no wind to spin the blades which generates electricity. Although meteorologists can predict wind patterns and place them in areas where the wind will most likely flow, meteorologists wont always predict the weather patterns right. The weather patterns are always changing, so if previous wind plants were placed in an area where the wind had flowed greater, that may not be so in a couple of years or decades. Another disadvantage would the required maintenance, but most moving parts need maintenance sometime in their life. And even though these wind turbines are supposed to be Earth/Wildlife friendly, bats can still be affected by them since they rely on sound waves to fly. When bats send out a sound wave it may move in between two blades causing the bat to think that it is safe to keep flying where it is headed, but as it is moving, so may the blades and it might fly right into the wind

An advantage of growing corn for use in ethanol production is that corn is a readily available crop in the United States, and there would no longer be a need to import materials to produce fuel. This would also benefit the agriculture industry by providing more jobs to corn planters. Going this route also would lessen the dependence on the Middle East and other countries for oil and fuel. Growing corn for use in ethanol production would also be a more energy efficient way, because there would be less travel of products, resulting in less energy consumption. Disadvantages of growing corn for use in ethanol production would be that it takes fuel to produce and process the corn.…

There are 2 types of wind turbines, a drag type which has a high torque but slow turning speed and a lift type which, because of the blade design, creates a lot of air pressure and is spun much faster. Because of the lift type being able to spin faster, they are more often used for creating large amounts of energy at a time. Wind turbines are similar to coal power because as the wind rotates the blade, the axle of the blade rotates a generator similar to the one inside of the coal plant. The blades rotate a large magnet in the center of copper wires and the current is harnessed from it. The mechanical energy is changed to electrical and then goes on the same sort of path that the coal plant does, into a transformer to up the voltage and finally back down when reaching a house or neighborhood, however this time with no…

The next major renewable energy in Canada is wind-generated power, which has garnered significant attention since the 21st century, resulting from emerging wind-farming capabilities used to produce electrical energy. The development of wind-generated electricity is becoming increasingly promising as costs of production decline practically every year. Over the last ten years, Canada’s wind power has grown thirty fold; “over 3750 wind turbines generate electricity in 170 wind farms across the country” and are expected to increase (Energy and Mines Ministers’ Conference, 2013). If wind energy continues to expand, experts say it can satisfy 20 percent of Canada’s electricity demand by 2025 (CanWEA, 2012) Offshore and coastal regions have a large wind potential capacity, but turbines remain limited to areas in the vicinity of existing electrical grids.…

Wind energy turbines can be dangerous to wildlife. These turbines can kill bats and birds when they accidently fly into them. Stray cats can also be affected because birds and bats can be a food source. The effects the turbines have on the environment are the roads that have to be built to lead to them. They would also destroy the natural habitats of various animals.…

It was used to propel boat across the Nile river. Also, wind energy is the fastest growing source of electricity in today's society. Finally, a single wind turbine can produce enough energy to power 500 houses.…

When comparing the technological world of today with that of hundreds of years ago, it is amazing how much technology has advanced and evolved into essential aspects of everyday life. Fifty years ago, inventions such as electricity, railways, and the internet were non-existent. It is hard to believe that in today’s day in age, everyone is so dependent on these creations. They have connected the world in ways that were thought to be impossible hundreds of years ago. The world went from having no electricity, railways, or internet, to being reliant on these inventions every single day.…

Our Earth was once green and full of nature. In a few centuries, technology and human development swiftly influenced our dependence on fossil fuels. Massive consumption of oil, coal, and gas drastically transformed our settlements into powerhouses for further progression. We now have electricity for lighting, gasoline for transportation, and coal for power sources. However, fossil fuels are being consumed at a rate faster than we can recover.…

If there was the possibility of changing the fate of the world for the better, would the people do it? At this very moment we are burning up fossil fuels that we will never be able to replenish. There is a clock running on how long we can make fossil fuels last, and that clock is ticking down every day every hour. We were made to evolve and learn, so let’s do so. Let’s focus on finding a new way to power the world that does not poison it.…

2 Loads and Structural Stress Because of the energy content of the wind is relative to the cube of the wind speed, turbine blades exposed to wind speeds will be under an enormous amount of stress. In order to diminish the impact of wind speeds, turbine manufacturers develop the rotors on them with few blades somehow they are as narrow and long as practical (Pinting ZHANG and Shuhong HUANG 2011). The maximum efficiency from such blades can be attained based on the pitch at an optimum angle to the wind, respectively (A.K.Wright and D. H.Wood 2004). All the necessary information with respect to the loads and especially directions are presented obviously in Fig.1.Note that the chordwise direction is frequently known as the edgewise direction.…

It was anticipated that the smaller blades will produce the most power because the shorter it is, the lighter the mass of the blade will be, therefore it will be easier for the wind to manipulate its movement. Wind Turbines are constructed to be proportionally large because it’s expected to capacitate above the Earth’s surface, where the wind is predicted to be more powerful. Since the blades in the experiment were all at the same level, and the air was pretty much controlled, the large rotors didn’t get a lot of power because the blades weight was heavier than the rest. This was expected due to the calculation that the mass of the rotors or propellers will be easier for the wind to manipulate as it is short and light. If an object like a rotor, is placed in the…
