Most people would like to live longer, happier lives, but in this fast-food driven society is it possible? When people change their diets, and become more aware of the foods they put into their bodies, longer, happier lives will be more common in their future. People who were raised or converted into veganism or vegetarianism are reported to have happier, longer lives. In an interventional trial was published in which all meat, poultry, fish, and eggs were removed from people’s diets and a significant improvement in mood scores was found after just two weeks (Transhumanity). Along with not eating anything derived from animals they also do not wear anything that comes from any animals. People always wonder what do vegans eat since they “cannot eat anything,” well they use substitutes. Instead of drinking whole milk, they use almond milk which is healthier. Milk is not necessary for strong bones; cows get their calcium from a plant-based diet, and so can we. Vegetables along with beans provides the same amount of calcium milk provides, but it is healthier (Protein-Rich Superfoods). Sugar is also a food item that vegans substitute, they use things like coconut sugar or brown sugar which again is healthier. Vegans can obtain protein from a variety of foods. Tofu is an example of a protein and because it is made from soybeans it provides more protein than you think. Aside from all the substitutes vegans do eat plenty of vegetables, but that is not the only food in their diet. Vegetarianism is the theory and practice of voluntary non-consumption of any animal. This dietary choice has had a long and diverse history and has been a prominent lifestyle choice in most cultures since the beginnings of time. Vegetarianism has its roots in the civilizations of ancient India and ancient Greece. The diet was based around the idea of non violence towards individuals and animals. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds are vegetarians. People who follow a vegetarian diet never eat meat, fish or poultry or any other animal products. Instead, they rely on a variety of plant-based foods. The most common types of vegetarian diets are vegan, lacto, ovo, lacto-ovo, and pescatarian. The vegan, the strictest vegetarian diet, does not eat or wear any animal products or by-products. Vegan diets are based on grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, soy, fruits, vegetables, and oils.
