Americans are known for proclaiming that theirs is the best military force known to man. There are songs about it, movies about it, and television shows about the United States military. Service men and women are saluted in airports, restaurants, etc. upon returning home by family and strangers. When they get home, and are no longer in the service, how are they treated? After being a part of an institution, such as the United States military, these men and women are now unemployed, and sometimes starting back from the bottom. Hours of job training and experience have been poured into these people, but upon return, these credentials are not seen as enough. Why is this? While enlisted, the cost of living for service members is being paid for, and some additional cost of living expenses could be saved. This extra training, in theory, would effectively help many service members have a more smooth transition back into civilian life, therefore, reducing government spending.
Providing more transferable, and well-rounded training to the men and women who serve in the United States military will allow for a smoother transition to civilian employment. Not only will there be a smoother transition, but for some cases, there will be less unnecessary spending from the ever shrinking military budget.
