Truck drivers are the eyes and ears of our nation 's highways. Many efforts are being directed towards these truck stops. One of these services is a nonprofit organization called Truckers Against Trafficking that trains truck drivers to recognize and report instances of human trafficking. It formed in Oklahoma, but is now based in Colorado. Here, it is encouraged that these truck drivers contact the human trafficking hotline when they see these girls, to protect and help them. A few years ago, a truck driver did call the service, and it helped put young, eighteen year old, Shari, in the right care she needed, and her pimp behind bars (“Heartland Express”). In another successful execution, a truck driver called after suspecting human trafficking in a particular situation, and his phone call led to the arrest and conviction of thirty-one traffickers, the release of nine people from the sex industry, and the fall of an organized crime ring that had been active in thirteen U.S. states. In order to enlist more help, every employee who works at a rest stop should have to go through mandatory training about how to recognize human trafficking. If they see suspicious activity, such as young girls approaching the trucks, they should alert the police and call the human trafficking
