The purpose behind a savior sibling is to provide organs, or cell transplants to an older sibling with a fatal disease. Such illnesses could be anything from leukemia to fanconi anemia, but the patient typically has a very scarce chance of living, if any at all. Because only the eggs that pass special requirements are implanted into the mother, all of the ones that fail are simply discarded as waste. People believe that this system can have almost the same effects as abortion (Vestal). Because of those feelings, savior siblings can greatly offend pro-life christians. Also, killing off potential offspring is taking away the chance for their God to create a potential beautiful life. Along with that, there are hardly any rights for the young adolescent. Even if they did not wish to donate and give up part of their life, they would have no choice because they are still a minor and decisions are made solely by the guardians. The laws and government cannot keep up with the irresolute science of today. In 1990, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act was created, but unfortunately, there was no specific mention of the savior sibling process. The act was reviewed once in 2006, and again in 2008, but there is yet to be talk or protection towards the child (Dickey).
