Should The Minimum Wage Be Increased?

The Minimum Wage is a great thing. It prevents Employers from ripping their employees off and underpaying them.The only problem with the current minimum wage is it doesn 't keep up with inflation and brings the full time salary in below the poverty line for minimum wage workers and almost forces a family to need government aid just to put food on the table and to have health care. There needs to be a change. The Government needs to increase the minimum wage to allow U.S. citizens to no longer need government aid, to help the economy and low income families, and to decrease the poverty rate. This proves that it is almost impossible for a family of 3 or more to survive on minimum wage without government aid which is why the minimum wage needs to be increased. David Cooper says, “Workers earning less than $10.10 per hour are almost all found in the bottom two wage deciles. Among these workers, approximately half rely upon at least one of these public assistance programs.” When Cooper says among these workers he is referring to minimum wage workers, and this shows that if the minimum wage was increased these workers wouldn 't need these public assistance programs which would put more money back into the hands of taxpayers. Brodwin says “This isn’t a theoretical analysis of what might happen; this is a data-based analysis of what actually did happen. Minimum wage hikes, at the modest levels that are getting voted into law, help economies grow.” This shows that multiple states are enacting laws that raise the minimum wage for the benefit of the economy and an overall 61 percent of small business owners support raising the minimum wage so why shouldn 't the federal government raise the federal minimum wage as
