A student must be enrolled in only three credit hours of classes and they have to maintain a 2.0-grade point average(GPA). They also have to be dedicated to helping themselves and other non-traditional students succeed and of course, they have to be a non-traditional student. A non-traditional student is any of the following; a parent, veteran, transfer student, a student who works more than thirty hours a week, a student starting college more than one year after high school or returning to college after a break in higher education. The membership fee for NTS is free and a student doesn’t have to attend a minimum number of meetings or events to maintain their membership. NTS does appear to do everything they claim but the question is: Are NTS’s social benefits better suited for the busy lifestyle of a non-traditional student than say, an organization that caters to more specific interests or academic goals? The answer is yes and no. Non-traditional students are comprised of a broad range of students. Events exclusive to NTS members seem to focus more on child-friendly themes. For students with children, this RSO would be a practical choice. The transfer student or veteran wouldn’t necessarily be interested in events like this but they could get the benefits of the many offerings provided without membership and devote their time to another RSO more suited to their interests or academic
