A 2006 research found that an ingredient in marijuana prevents a formation of “Alzheimer’s plaques”, which is located in the brain and helps with cognition and memory (“Medical Marijuana”). Multiple Sclerosis has utilized medicinal marijuana to release some pain that is caused by muscles contracting. Some patients have reported the drug boosts them to “feel good” (“Medical Marijuana”). Medicinal marijuana can also alleviate eye troubles. Research has proven medicinal marijuana to be effective in treating glaucoma since the 1970s. The research has found that marijuana relieves pressure, which commonly causes damage to the optic nerve leading to blindness (“Medical Marijuana”). Furthermore, medicinal marijuana has positive effects on arthritis. Patients who have rheumatoid arthritis, and are treated with marijuana, tend to have reduced pain, less inflammation, and increased sleep (“Medical Marijuana”). According to the American Cancer Society, it says that medicinal marijuana has anti-bacterial qualities, slows tumor growth, and creates larger airways. An 8-month-old, suffering from a massive tumor, was recommended to use chemotherapy or radiation. Alternatively, the child was treated with cannabis to shrink the size of his tumor. His parents applied the cannabinoid solution to the child’s pacifier two times per day. Within 30 days, there was a significant size change of the tumor (Courtney 16). Another case showed a two-year-old who underwent brain surgery for 39 hours. After surgery, chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant, and radiation, the little girl was able to go home but was placed on morphine and hospice. Two years after being placed on a raw cannabis leaf, the little girl became cancer-free and was rid of scar tissue (Courtney 16). Still yet another case was with a young 6-year-old patient who was experiencing 300 to 400 seizures a day. The boy was given an ointment, made from cannabis, which reduced the amount of seizures he was having to one every 3 or 4 days (Courtney 16).
