“Nearly all the growth in imprisonment since 1980 has been concentrated among those with no more than a high school education”(The Benefits of Mass Incarceration ). Ever since1980, the US prison rates has dramatically been increasing and showed no signs of decreasing because of what has happened in the world. It’s depressing that majority of people of color in prison do not have a high school education and some do. Being in jail takes away every little thing away from you. Once being labeled something that will always describe you will affect you in many ways and for life. Most inmates released from prison and try to get an occupation usually fail. Most jobs will not allow people that hold a criminal record because majority of professions think it will make their company look bad and could cause danger around co-workers. According to the same article mentioned before the author says “There are now 2.3 million people in U.S. prisons and jails, fourfold increase in the incarceration since 1980”. Across America it seems police officers everywhere are trying to get rid, wipe away the black people and send most of them to prison. According to an article from “The Benefits of Mass Incarceration Are Outweighed by the Negative Effects” the author writes “Today it is perfectly legal to discriminate against criminals in nearly all the ways that it was once legal to discriminate against African Americans. As a criminal, you have scarcely more rights, arguably less respect than a black man living in Alabama at the height of Jim Crow. We have not ended racial caste in America;we have merely redesigned it”. It’s unnecessary labeling every person of color criminals when not knowing their whole background. The criminal justice system is putting fear in those who are colored. Mass incarceration is the new the New Jim Crow of this era, more people of color are getting thrown in jail more than any other race. This is why people who are not black, and the criminal justice system think it is believable, right that everyone can discriminate against African Americans and label them as people who do not belong
