Living In The Real World Analysis

Superior Essays
The world is dealing with so many tragedies; it is headed into a post-apocalyptic status and the next step after that would be extinction. Knowing the government, they are trying to grasp onto the little bit of this we have left, however this means they have to take drastic measures. Since it is year 2213 our technology has advanced a significant amount, giving people the opportunity to live in a virtual reality world, but living in this world would mean I would have to give up my actual life. Making this decision is not something very simple so after much debating I have decided I would take this offer even though this means I leave behind everything and that makes this very difficult but I have really thought about the benefits for not only …show more content…
The sad part about the entire situation is we could have stopped this from happening but we didn’t because as people we are naturally selfish, we don’t think about our choices. As humans just do whatever we want because we think we can and that is normal in this society. By living in this machine, even though I am only one person, I am still helping resolve the issues; choosing to stay in the real world does nothing other than the fact I get to watch everyone I love die young, I get to hear about all the tragedies, and I get to watch our world crumple to an utterly depressing end. In my opinion I would never want to see that happen and if I can help out by going into this virtual world and living there then why not after all this is the earth, a beautiful planet, that we have had the pleasure of living on. Other than wanting to be in the machine to help save the world and save lives that can’t just leave like I can it would be exciting to be able to pick your life and the way you want to live even if it isn’t real it will feel real. In my mind that would be amazing after everything I have …show more content…
I would program as I go just because I feel like if I programmed it all at once I would end up messing it up but oddly enough I do not believe I would change that much about my life. Through all the rough patches I still have an amazing life and I am surrounded by so many people who love and care about me. The fact that I do get to choose the way I want my life I would easily make the decision to have my family with me as well as have it so none of them ever struggle with any issues. I would make it so I have my dream job and I could find the love of my love whoever that may be. There are multiple benefits that come with accepting this decision such as it is safer than being in the real world and that is critically important because of the fact you are living in a machine, unaware of the fact you are in a machine. Also the government has promised to make this free while supplying you with the necessary needs to survive (food, water, medicine, etc.) they even promise to provided medical attention when needed. Money in the world at this point is very hard to come by so when the government is offering all of this for free a lot of people will want to accept this offer especially because it gets them away from the horrible disasters occurring. I wouldn’t mind escaping reality to my own world and all the sadness that I feel about leaving everyone

Dante Alighieri once said, “There is no greater sorrow than to recall a happy time when miserable.” Though not directly mentioned, the idea of the quote seems to be explored thoroughly in both “Where I Lived, and What I Lived For,” by Henry David Thoreau, and “Once More to the Lake,” by E.B. White. While both of these authors float around several thoughts including reality, advancements, and living in general, they take very different approaches to do so. In “Once More to the Lake,” White reminisces on his journey back to a place he spent many summers as a child. His essay takes the form of a narrative, with him explaining in great detail the beauty and isolation of the lake.…

Humanity is having trouble with the prevalent rate of which technology is developing. It is remarkably rapid that it cannot be controlled by the human mind. Children are choosing robotic machines over regular biological individuals, which creates this bizarre experience between the human and the computer. As a society, we have yet to decide whether this development in the robotic machines is ethically concerning, or if we are able to control the path it takes. Sherry Turkle, author of “Alone Together,” believes we can control the pace and direction of technology.…

The ethics of uploading the human mind to a computer and transplanting it into something else is something that humanity will need to figure out eventually in our world. With the advancements in computer technology and enhanced artificial intelligence, the age of robots like synths is closer than we think. Francis Fukuyama, a philosopher that sat as a member of George Bush’s Council on Bioethics, believes that humans and human dignity have a “Factor X.” This Factor X is described as “Some essential human quality underneath [all contingent characteristics] that is worthy of a certain minimal level of respect (Checketts, 4).” He also goes on to explain this Factor X, “Cannot be reduced to the possession of moral choice, or reason, or language,…

Every day people witness the horrors and atrocities in society caused by differing human ideologies, but what would it be like in a world where a computer could solve all of the humanity’s problems? The short story, “All the Troubles of the World,” by Isaac Asimov is a story about the super computer, Multivac and its desires to die because it can no longer stand carrying the weight of society’s problems. In the story, the author effectively expresses the theme of the story which is that no being is superior enough to solve all of the world’s problems through the use of literary devices such as setting, narration, and characterization . An additional eminent literacy device Asimov uses is the description of the setting of the story.…

With the passage of time, technology is taking over our lives and human beings are becoming increasingly dependent on it. As Morpheus, the fictional character from The Matrix eloquently puts it “It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.” The inability to recall a friend’s contact information without the aid of our smartphone’s contact list is an innocuous example of human reliance on technology. However, this is indicative of a bigger problem. The dwindling emphasis on honing working memory and exercising basic mental skills, due to the easy accessibility of gadgets that can perform these tasks, impacts our learning and cognition.…

In the magazine article “Live Forever” by Raymond Kurzweil he predicts that the rapid advancement of technology will lead to being able to upload the human conscious into a virtual reality that can be controlled with the mind. This will become possible by allowing billions of nanobots into our bodies, allowing us to upload our knowledge, memories, and insights. Kurzweil believes this could lead to eternal life or to “live forever.” Although there are clearly dangers with the rapid advancement of technology, this is the inevitable evolution of mankind (325-329). Kurzweil’s main claim is that with the rapid advancement of technology will lead to the further blending of human and machine.…
