Decisions regarding whether or not to attend post-secondary institutions have become increasingly difficult for young adults. In the past, it was easy to get a job right out of high school. More recently, people have difficulty finding well paying jobs without a post-secondary degree because many jobs have requirements, such as college or university degrees and certificates. Despite the difficulty, many young adults still favour entering the workplace right out of high school rather than pursuing a post-secondary education. This essay will compare the advantages and disadvantages of joining the workplace right out of high school and the advantages and disadvantages of getting a post-secondary degree to demonstrate that a post-secondary degree is necessary for increased success in the workplace. The advantages of joining the workplace right out of high school include the benefits of not having to pay off any debt from schooling and gaining more work experience at a younger age. These are advantages of joining the workplace after the completion of high school because young adults are able to earn money at a faster rate and this allows them to create the immediate future they want for themselves. These advantages also allow young adults to see the financial benefit of their hard work within a shorter amount of time, which increases their self-esteem and makes them feel accomplished.
