Monsanto Pros And Cons

One of the main concerns and striving goal of the United States is to improve the economy and make larger profits. Several of the most dominating biotech companies that control over seventy percent of the world’s pesticide and genetic modification seed market are Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow Agrosciences, BASF, Bayer, and Pioneer (Du Pont). As these companies inquire that they are trying to benefit the American population, it is actually the complete opposite; they are lying to the American public in order to take their money. A plant ecologist at Ohio State University voiced out the government’s faults in correlation with mega-corporations, like Monsanto, saying, “Every transgenic organism brings with it a different set of potential risk and benefits…Each …show more content…
According to Monsanto, there is not a needed requirement to label genetically modified foods appearing on supermarket shelves. Many consumers just want to be aware of what foods are being genetically modified, but Monsanto automatically disagrees on the bill (Barrett). This would generally make the public feel skeptical over Monsanto’s true motive in the biotech industry. Why would Monsanto and other companies want to hide whether or not some crop has been genetically modified? The reason could be that genetically modified crops and its “dose” of Round-Up Ready do result with many negative effects as well as possibly being the start to all food security problems due to its recent discovery and insubstantial safety verifications. Most consumers are left in the dark when it comes to genetically modified foods, creating a misconception towards these companies as well as the government who support them (Barrett). Obviously, the United States government is left cornered and allows Monsanto and the such to take control and force them into supporting their business with genetic …show more content…
A person’s physical health could be damaged if genetically modified organisms are sprayed with Monsanto’s Round-Up Ready, which contains the active ingredient glyphosate, being quite toxic. The effects are irreversible as they result with kidney and liver damage, a weak immune system, nutrient deficiency, or allergies. In addition, the safety of the planet is being gambled as glyphosate on the plant gets into water streams and into the soil in which it gets absorbed and exposed to many different organisms. Now, the whole planet faces its sixth mass extinction due to genetically modified foods needing to grow with glyphosate and intoxicating major pollinators that help plants and flowers strive. Another point that genetic engineering is disastrous is because mega corporations are in control of them. Biotech companies like Monsanto and Du Pont are not running for helping the general public, but they are there to only mass produce genetically modified crops spray with herbicides and sell them in order to make a profit. In their case, there is no need to think to the lives of people today and in future generations. Although, many people-advocates, the U.S. government, and biotech companies- are saying otherwise and that genetically modified organisms is what the population needs. These individuals and larger groups might say that they have done their
