About 795 million people worldwide struggle with starvation and malnourishment. While there is no doubt that world hunger is a pandemic, there is a lot of debate over how to solve this problem. One way that world hunger could be drastically reduced is by using GM technologies, or in other words, genetic modification technology. Genetically modified foods should be used for solving the colossal issue of world hunger because GMOs are not dangerous for humans to consume; they can feed millions, have more overall benefits than regular food, and GMOs are easier to cultivate and distribute than normal crops. Many people are concerned about the unknown effects of GMOs on human beings. GM technology is a relatively new development; so new, that humans have not been able to observe the long-term effects of exposure to genetically modified foods. However, scientists have observed the effects of a certain strain of GM corn on rats. In the article “Genetically Modified Food to Fight Hunger?” Professor Judith Hartl reports that a study took place in which rats were fed a strain of GM corn called MON 863. GMO cultivation can feed, provide jobs, and increase the health of millions of people worldwide. Additionally, they have a longer shelf life, they can be resistant to diseases and pests, and they can thrive in extreme heat and drought. With all of this evidence supporting the use of GM technology to eradicate world hunger, it is obvious that GMOs can be the complete answer to stopping global starvation. There is only one question left: how soon will it be before anyone uses this technology to actually do something about world
