Two important factors that bring in money to college sports are the number of students enrolled in the university and the size of the athletic department. The most costly sport in the U.S colleges is football. “Cost per undergraduate student are high for smaller schools and then drop rapidly as the number of students expands. Regardless of the number of students, as the level of play moves up, so do the cost.” (Lipford, Jody W. and Jerry K. Slice. 2015). A college that has a good sports team invest millions of dollars to receive titles and reputations from fans and future college students. Stacy Johnson-Klein won the case and was rewarded $19.1 million dollars. Former Fresno State president, John Welty, wanted to appeal the lawsuit. John Welty stated,”The university will always act when the health and welfare of its students is endangered.” (Lloyd, Matt. 2007). This statement by former president John Welty indicated that he wanted to appeal the lawsuit for the students who will be having to contribute to the $19.1 million dollar lawsuit against Fresno State.
