“…most students come away [from college] with (1) a greater ability to think analytically and (2) the discipline to see a task through from beginning to end–two very attractive qualities in an potential employee ("The Benefits of Earning a College Degree", n.d.).” Degrees demonstrate you have a solid foundation in general education in math, science, English and history as well as specific general knowledge based on your specific degree. In addition to you’re the general education you possess, you have also learned how to think analytically a skill that is crucial in many careers. Having a degree, demonstrates that you have perseverance and the ability set a long term goal and through hard work and dedication successfully meet that goal. It also exhibits your willingness and ability to learn and proves that you can grasp and learn the requirements of the position. Throughout your college career you are provided constructive feedback from instructors and professors. In order to successfully complete college you have to be able to take this feedback, learn from it, apply it and ultimately grow from it. Socializing and creating relationships with your co-workers and peers provide a variety of benefits that can help you advance in your career by gaining insight into personalities, keeps you informed about things that are going on within the company but outside your immediate scope of responsibility, and helps you build a presence within your company (Hering, "Smart socializing with co-workers", 2011). Gaining insights into personalities can help you learn how best to successfully interact with people. The people you work with can have varying degrees of personalities and as such you may find it hard to interact with them. However, by developing a social network, you may have befriended someone with a similar personality or be able to learn from a friend how they best interact with someone of that nature. It’s also a great way to learn different styles for people and process management techniques. By nature we are all unique and have different management styles. In fact I believe that some of the best managers take a little bit from everyone and find what really works for them and the people they are managing.
