AP Environmental Science (APES) is an optional course offered at our school, a course most students consider useless. The students who took the course say that APES is the easiest AP our school offers, with the exception of AP Chinese. However, this was my first legitimate AP test, and it was very scary. The journey I undertook this school year with my exceptional classmates is very momentous.
Procrastination, one of the many fatal flaws most humans inherit, was the primary problem I encountered in this class. The reason as to why I say this is that I never studied for the actual AP test. In the beginning of the year, I said that I’ll review during winter break all the way

Although I’ll admit I’ve procrastinated at times, for the next two years I look forward to avoid doing so because I know, from past experience, how terrible a habit it is. In middle school, I made the wrong choice and procrastinated very often, forming a bad habit that I brought to PACE ninth grade. Because middle school curriculum was significantly easier, procrastination was not a significant problem, but in high school it definitely became one. It was then I realized if I…

The theme for Miller´s 2017 yearbook is a ecosystem theme. One reason the class decided on having a ecosystem theme yearbook, is a because almost every question asked the agree and disagree side came out to be almost even. A second reason the yearbook theme is ecosystems is because after philosophical chairs we took a survey on whether we should have a jungle or western theme yearbook and the answers were even. The teacher then stated that they both have on thing in common, which is ecosystems. Therefore the class decided on having a ecosystem theme…

The amount of work I have to do for an AP class is sometimes overwhelming. For example, in my AP Psychology class I was assigned to read a fifty two page chapter while taking notes and defining all fifty seven vocabulary words; the already arduous task was coupled with my chapter reading and book work for AP U.S. history. To simply write notes on a twenty page chapter of history takes two to three hours at times, so imagine doing more than twice the…

I walked into the classroom of my last class of the day expecting to just take notes and listen to a lecture. Unfortunately for me, the teacher announced that we were going to write a timed essay based on a chapter of a book we were reading. This task did not seem challenging at first, and the thirty minutes we were given to write our essays seemed like plenty of time. Nonetheless, I still managed to turn what was supposed to…

Teddy Roosevelt once said that nothing worth having comes easy. With this in mind, I have actively spent my high school years working to ensure that my success and achievements are fruits of hard work and perseverance, rather than sheer luck. These past four years, I have dedicated my young mind to absorbing the valuable knowledge that pools before me in my rigorous AP courses. In addition, I also invested a good portion of my time into my school’s band program. Although balancing academics and such a demanding extracurricular activity was difficult, I managed to find the time to also participate in very rewarding organizations such as National Honor Society, among others.…

Like many students, college students always want the easiest way to attain a good grade. That was what I experienced in high school. Teachers give credit for work completed rather than the accuracy of the work and students would receive credit for things that had nothing to do with materials being taught in class. For example, my teacher would give extra credit on essays for bringing tissue boxes to class. In high school, students get used to slacking off and procrastinating however teachers seemed like they did not care to help discourage these bad habits.…

I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me…

After my disappointing results, I have to start taking all my classes seriously and put in more effort in achieving my goals. I am practicing and studying ahead for any test that I have to take.…

During my first semester at the University of Southern California, I took a Women in International Development class after reading about Wangari Mathai’s life and how science was utilized as a means for empowering the poor and women as a result changing an entire country’s government. With encouragement from my professor and inspiration from Mathai, I decided to further explore an interdisciplinary education, leading me to my chosen field: environmental studies. Becoming a scientific diver changed my educational direction. The ocean took my breath away with its wide variety of life and showed me the many dimensions of the underwater world which created a special interest in me for the marine and coastal environmental fields.
