Importance Of Benedictine Values

1. Each day, I attempt to practice the Benedictine values of prayer and moderation. I often meditate on my relationship with God and pray throughout the day as a part of my open communication with God. I also greatly value moderation and try to practice it each day through portion control at meal time, monitoring my balance of speaking and talking in class, and by seeking a balance in time spent studying and time spent having fun with friends.

2. The Benedictine value I find most difficult to consistently practice is service. While I place great emphasis on service in my life and strive to fulfill it, it is very easy to get caught up in my daily tasks and personal needs or focuses. Thus, I forget to stop and take time to help others and

I believe the Benedictine values are crucial for leadership. To be an effective leader, one must focus immensely on community, building trust among their group mates and fostering an overarching environment where all members are accepted and able to share ideas and strive together for a common good. Beyond this, leaders must always practice hospitality. In my opinion, leadership is largely shown and done by example. Thus, good leaders, must demonstrate their acceptance of others and openness to a diverse community of people in order to get the rest of the group on board with this positive way of thinking and acting. Moderation is also key as leaders must learn to balance their talking and listening time, thus realizing that leading does not mean always being "in charge" or the center of attention. Furthermore, delegation is key to success. No organization can be successful unless all parts have a chance to lead and to do their part. Prayer enables leaders to understand they are not alone. Often in leadership roles, it may feel as though you are the lead person or to lose direction. Prayer allows leaders to gain guidance from God and serves as a reminder that our work serves a greater purpose than we may think. Respect for Persons again reflects acceptance of different viewpoints and backgrounds in a group. By practicing this value, leaders and groups can gain new perspectives on issues and new strategies they may not have previously considered. Perhaps the most important value to leadership is service. We have learned a lot about Robert Greenleaf 's idea of "Servant Leadership." Thus, I believe it is extremely important that leaders understand their position is not dictatorial, but rather it is that of a facilitator and a mere part of the whole. Leaders must teach their group that all members have equal importance and that the best way to be successful is to serve one another, furthermore, organizational missions and goals can succeed far more if

Three important Franciscan values at St. Bonaventure include discovery, community, and individual worth. I could relate to how minimally these values were portrayed throughout the book “Nobody” by Marc Lamont Hill. I grew up sheltered from most of the ugly in the world, but that did not stop me from seeing people oppress the vulnerable. It was tragic to hear the stories of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and the countless other victims of “America’s war on the vulnerable.” My heart dropped when I was reading Darren Wilson’s testimony.…

Leadership Kathy Dunlap Bethel University MOD 310 April 24, 2017 Kameke Payne Leadership No one theory of leadership has ever been accepted by all, but the common thought of leadership is that it is an influence process, occurs within a group, involves goals, and attainment. Some people think leaders are born with a trait that innately makes them leaders, while others theorize that it is a characteristic of an individual, but we have learned that leaders are a product of their development and life experiences.
