Before drawing a conclusion about something, a person should first consider all the facts and evidence. Different versions of the Bell Witch legend can entertaining and fun however, the truth is noble. (Cobb,Jr., 2016, p. 7) Cobb attempts to influence the audience by focusing on logical explanations and scientific theories about the historical haunting. Cobb describes a poltergeist as a series of unexplained paranormal events that involve agitated movement of objects but have no visible source of the energy that is causing the motion. (Cobb,Jr., 2016, p. 9) Newton’s first law of motion is the idea of inertia; when an object is at rest, it will remain at rest unless it acted upon by an outside force. Psychokinesis, telekinesis, and poltergeist activity violate the laws of motion. ‘Kate’ as the Bell family referred to the entity was intelligent. She attended prayer meetings and church, could recite scripture and quote Biblical verses on command, and sing hymns. ‘Kate was more powerful than a spirt in a typical haunting or an apparition. ‘Kate’s’ power was not limited to verbal communication; she was physically abusive to the Bell’s youngest daughter Betsy and could move objects such as jerking the covers off the Bell’s while they were sleeping. Based on the physical attributes, the haunting is suggestive of a poltergeist. However, this stereotype is broken because of the entity’s verbal interaction. In modern times the Bell Witch would be classified as demonic activity. (Cobb,Jr., 2016, p. 27)
