The Beautiful Quarter Horse First, to understand the graceful Quarter Horse, one must look at when they were found. As someone who doesn't know a lot about horses, one needs to know how they got their name. “They received their name because they can run a quarter mile in just over 20 seconds, making them the fastest horse” (“American”). During the 1600s, the quarter horse became known as running horses because they ran in races. “The first English horses were important in 1611 were known as running horses”(Winkel). As many people moved to the west, they used Quarter horses as transportation. “Back in the 1800s as people started to move towards the western states of America, the Quarter horse were frequently used for ridden transportation”(“American”).
