Both excerpts focus on the theme of survival. In both sources, two simaler things are happening that have taught a lesson.
Brian spots bears near his camp thinking that if he does not harm the bear, the bear will not harm him. However, little did Brian know that he was going to wake up to see a bears rear end right on top of him. In the text it states “He was sleeping with his head in the opening in the shelter and he had his face out.” This shows, Brian didnent ever come to the thought that this would happen and that he needs to be more careful when it comes to going to sleep.
Buck faces a problem when he walks into the tent where his team mates are and is told to get out viciously. Therefore, Buck runs out in the bitter cold and runs away.
