Ocean Beach may be known for its stellar surfing and savory foods, but it is also known for its historic buildings and architecture. One notable building is the Kraft Building which was built in 1927 for medical purposes. It was owned by Fred Kraft and housed a drug store that contained a soda fountain downstairs. It was also occupied by the historic Seaside grill, which was claimed to have the best pies in town. Rumor also has it that Charles Lindbergh was a common patron here.…

Jersey Shore was a popular TV show on MTV between 2009 and 2012 about “Guidos”, or Americans of Italian descent in their twenties who rented a house together on the Jersey Shore, which was aimed at teenagers and people under thirty. Both visually and thematically, the films' 'amateurish,' unprofessional qualities, which make them akin to folk art, underscore Brown's vision, and perfectly capture the relatively open, casual, modest, and freedom-loving spirit of the time for the surfers who were blessed enough to follow their hearts and minds in a conventional era. 'The Endless Summer' (1964) was Brown's first nationally distributed surf film, and also the first on which he spent more than six months on the filming and editing. After a slightly shaky start, 'The Endless Summer,' which features a haunting instrumental theme by the Sandals, eventually became a worldwide hit both critically and commercially, and is recognized today as a sports documentary classic. However, 'The Endless Summer' isn't necessarily better than Brown's excellent first five surf films.…

As he shows off his outsider status and calls himself many names like a “brown recluse” and a “silver spoon coon” in his songs, it gave him a unique perspective of his life that many of his fans appreciated. His songs address race and class from a perspective that isn’t usually shown in rap or hip hop. He likes to find ways to differentiate himself and dedicate to his music and his people.
