The Basics Of Video Games Affect My Educational Life

Good Essays
It all started after school, on Tuesday November 24, 2009. My siblings and I had gone off to the Bob Lucas library to finish any homework we had. As we entered the library, a cool breeze from the air conditioning flew straight into my face, and a feeling of relief came to of me. The library was considerably smaller than other public libraries, and yet they had so many different types of books within their shelves. On my left was the front desk, nice and tidy, with a computer reserved sign-up sheet on top of the desk. On my right was a single row of old library computers that faced each other on a long wooden table. Since I had no homework, I decided to head to the front desk and sign up for a computer while my siblings went off into the corner …show more content…
And because of it, gaming has helped mold my educational life. In the past, I learned the basics of English literature, from the concepts of a story arc to character development. However, it was this video that got me to break out of my comfort zone and see the real world. I could see and hear the many different arguments over gaming, whether it is destructive or beneficial. Deep within me, my heart felt as if it was on fire with some sort of passion that I never even knew about. Then I began to feel an intense pain around the tips of my fingers. And yet, it was a pain in which I did not mind. I finally had woken up for my own despair, and I had returned to the internet and onto Google. All I saw was the phrase “Are video games bad” on the search bar. I then pressed the enter, and saw the results of that search. One by one, I looked up and down, side-to-side, everywhere of the websites that I clicked on. I was able to see multiple different sources and their arguments, from talking about skills that aren 't just virtual: they can help you do better in real-life situations, like from the article “Video Game Are Good for You” and how, “they can help you do better in real-life situations” (Steffens), and how “people that may be aggressive, but it isn 't violent” (Falcon) from the article “Video Games: Bad, but Not All Bad”. All while my mind was as an ocean breeze, my heart as a race horses sprinting to the end, my fingers as flesh that had paper cuts all around, and my eyes as a peasant begging for water. It was as if I was hypnotized during my research of what I desired. And during this quest for knowledge, I could learn many new research skills: spot many errors on peoples’ opinions, as they would contradict other arguments, see firsthand on what games can do and whom they

One month before my 10th birthday, my father picked me up from school. I was an after-school program kid, and we were still milling around the door to the cramped portable, hanging up backpacks and chatting with friends from other classes, when my name was called. That should have been my first clue that this would be a day of change. Both of my parents were in the Navy, and I was often one of the last few kids to go home. My second clue should have been when I saw my dad’s dusty, dented black Dodge sitting in front of the main office, steam swirling around the engine in the January chill as I waited for him to sign me out for the day.…
