There are many obstacle that can obscure or hinder a message to reach the intended people such as
noise, poor visibility, weather and other things but there are about six barriers to business communication
that affect or that can make the intended people fail to understand the meaning of the words even if they
can hear the words. These barriers are to be avoided in the business community and if you can identify
them, then you can avoid them and present a good speech. The six barriers are discussed below.
One of the barrier is when you use a word that has been overused and has loose its meaning even
though it is a clever word. This type of barrier is called cliché and it is the use of common words which

that are replaced to avoid disrespect but the audience also know the meaning of the words, for
example the use of the word correctional facility meaning jail or passed on meaning died. It is
not to be used in business environment as it will make other people uncomfortable in the
business community.
The last barrier to business communication is doublespeak which is the use of words to disguise,
obscure, or change the meaning of the words. Doublespeak distort or change the meaning of
words to try and trick the listeners but this will eventually lead into lost of trust as buyers or
investors need to listen to the actual words a product or business can do. Examples of
doublespeak is expressing death penult as capital punishment, trying to trick listeners but
the meaning will always comes up.
In my life experience, as a chairperson of a housing cooperative, l was once tusked to mobilize
some funds to give it to the council officials as bribe so that they can speed up our allocation. It
