One reason why the death penalty should be banned is because we pay millions for the death penalty system each year. According to the Oregonian, “in 1995 the trials for three Washington County murder cases cost more than $1.5 million” (The). Capital punishment is very expensive and states would save lots of money if capital punishment is banned. “Over the lifetime of a case, executing prisoners can be three times as expensive as life in prison, primarily due to the higher costs of capital punishment trials, automatic appeals, and the heightened security on death row with lower staff-to-prisoner ratios” (Kill). This shocking fact shows that it would be less expensive to keep someone in prison for life then too kill them.
