The Bane: A Short Story

“I am Briseis de Blanc of the Red Eye pack of Louisiana, and I am here to tell you a story and ask you a question.” Briseis told the Bane alpha when he motioned for her to come to him. “So darlin’ let’s begin,” she told him as she leaned on the banister.

“My pack is old Alwyn, older than most, but Hale paid no heed to our age. It was a mistake. Our memory is ancient and we have legends and truths that have long since been forgotten. Foolish Hale. If they had recalled how we obtained our name, they would have left a sleeping dragon alone.” As she spoke she stood fully and walked to Alwyn a devious smile on her face. “Any fool can make a rule. “I heard of you Alwyn during my travels and I knew that you could help. So I convinced my father to help you. One pack is strong. Two is stronger. All I ask for in return chère, is that you kill my father and help me kill those like me. He and his creations need to disappear. But I cannot do it; he would expect a death blow from me.” A loud popping came from her hand as she cracked her knuckles. It was a habit to stop her from shifting when her emotions took control.

“You have three days before I return, use that time to come to a decision.” Briseis’ complete attention returned to Alwyn when he agreed to think over the offer. When he opened up his home to her, she gave him a sweet smile. It was strange to her that he would welcome her. It reminded her of a time long since past. When he told her not to cause trouble Briseis wanted to laugh. Children of Loule always cause mischief. When Alwyn brushed past her, conversation finished she followed him into the house. As they walked through the kitchen she watched the others out of the corner of her eye. Much fun to be had

Bridie Less is a young girl who was growing up in Boston in the mid 70’s. Bridies father is black and her mother is white.…

Opening the once lonely door, there was a hallway that seemed to have just rejoiced with a once depriven necessity. As striking as the first rose in spring, her silky, soft, shiny hair combined with her enticingly exquisite eyes produced a sublime look; it instantly ejected any pressure in the room. Withered by time, the plethora of thin liable cracks scattered across the olive-dyed floors and indigo walls with an antique circular pattern ; this house was old enough to live in a pangea . However, there was a skeptical sense of suspicion of this person.…
