At the average party, everyone is not in a big group chatting with each other. They split off and find their friends, settling in a corner where they don't have to interact with people they aren't accustomed to. This might defeat the purpose of a party, but this occurrence is found in other places as well; such as classrooms, sport events, etc. But at every large gathering, one can find several different groups of people.
The Band Geeks
At every party, one will find a group primarily made up of die-hard band geeks. This group will be discussing topics like which sets they think are terrible in their marching band show or what section got on their nerves at the last practice. During the fall semester, marching band is everything to them. In addition to discussing terrible drill, they may also be the DJs at the party. Most often pulling up the best of the modern hits from their large and varying archive of music but occasionally throwing in a recording from Drum Corps International. Nevertheless, they're an unmissable addition to a party.
