The place where the story take place is 145th street in Harlem. Harlem is a neighbourhood in New York. The people in Harlem is very poor and half of them don’t even have a job. There is also a lot criminality in the neighbourhood. As we can read on page 18 line 14 “One thing about 145th street. Half the guys on the block don’t have jobs and so they’re always on the stoops or just standing around with nothing to do. And after a while that gets boring, so when the cops arrive like this it breaks the day up nice. Unless it’s you they’re looking for, of course.” Here we hear a lot about the street and the settings.

The man was killed by the police because they thought he pulled a gun but he did not pull a gun instead he took his wallet out of his pocket. In “The Baddest Dog in Harlem” there is also an innocent kid there got shot because he wanted to see the reason for all the police and shots. Another parallel there can be drawn is where Springsteen sings “Lena gets her son ready for school; She says "on these streets, Charles; You've got to understand the rules.; If an officer stops you,; Promise me you'll always be polite,; That you'll never ever run away; Promise Mama you'll keep your hands in sight"” and the part from “The Baddest Dog in Harlem” where the main character puts on his innocent face are equal because they are both about not making any thing a police officer can misinterpret and therefore pulling his
