In Alan Baddeley’s article, “Is Working Memory Still Working?” he broke down the components of working memory in an attempt to discover if it still works efficiently. After analyzing multiple studies, the conclusion that working memory has always worked, and still works, was developed. While Baddeley gave a systematic and detailed analysis of applicable research, there are several issues with this article. Throughout the article his tone lacked confidence, tenses switched frequently, figures were not provided correctly, colloquialisms were used, the grammar was inconsistent and contained errors, and data was not provided, despite numerous references.…

In our brains there is a system called controlled attention, which is used to keep going forward with something even if it seems impossible, one could say that it’s kind of like a “nightclub bouncer”. The nightclub bouncer is what prevents irrelevant stuff from getting into working memory- the ability to juggle facts and perform mental operations- and while the nightclub bouncer is doing that the globus pallidus is highly active and proactively fending off distractions (Glenn 4). Some people are better than others at not being easily distracted. People with strong working-memory capacities don’t have a large nightclub; they just have better bouncers working the velvet rope outside (Glenn…

The most important findings of the study indicated that cognitive strategy could be the critical factor in the resulting internal processing in which it could be used in future studies regarding working memory processing (Hilbert et al., 2015). The internal validity that was identified is that the subjects could focus just on the memorization task. The DSB needs more clarity because it did not provide all the information that was needed for this experiment. The limitations on external validity were the need to explain the relationship between complex span tasks and the DSB. The strategies that were used to control for extraneous (confounding) variables were by checking for random answering patterns between…

We even have different types of models that illustrate how our memory functions such as the Multi Store Model of Memory. The Multi Store Model of Memory was created in 1968 by Atkinson and Shiffrin (McLeod, 2007). How it works is information moves from store and back again in a Straight line (McLeod, 2007). Then information is distinguished by the sense organs and arrive in the sensory memory but if present the information arrives in the short-term memory (McLeod, 2007). After that it is carried to the long-term memory only if repetitive.…
