No one knows who the Axeman of New Orleans is. In Johnston (2014) he found that a nefarious killer known as “the Axeman” began terrorizing the city of New Orleans in 1918 and 1919 (pg.1). The Axeman would randomly kill residents with an axe. The person responsible for the malevolent crimes has never found. In Swancer (2016), he found that there were two primary suspects in the axeman murders. The primary suspects were: Joseph Mumfre, and Andrew Maggio(para. 22, 14). Unfortunately, there was not enough evidence to fully accuse one of them in the series of murders committed by the axeman. Various people have also concluded that the series of murders was not an act of a human being but of an enigmatic, supernatural being (Swancer, 2016, ). The fact of various murders seems too callous and bizarre to be caused by just one average person (para. 14). Who was the axeman, and what was his motive for the series of murders? Celestin (2014) found a note that the axeman had written (pg. 16). In Taylor (2004), he found that the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper received a note. The note left by the axeman stated as following:
They have never caught me and they never will. They have never seen me, for I am invisible, even as the ether that surrounds your earth. I am not a human being, but a spirit and a demon from the hottest hell. I am what you Orleanians and your foolish police call the Axeman. When I see fit, I shall come and claim other victims.
