The Australian Flag Should Be Changed

Improved Essays
There has been many arguments on whether the Australian flag should be changed or not. And I believe that by changing the Australian flag can help to reinforce our national pride. A flag is a representative of a nation and its people. Our current flag demonstrates a strong sense of pride and the same emotions will still be carried through by the new flag. By changing the flag design it would display a more clear and recognisable Australian identity.

Our Australian flag has been around for many years, since the last design was created. However, it has always lead to some confusions to foreigners. Some foreigners would often ask “what part of Britain are you from?” Our flag does not display a well enough Australian identity at first sight. The reason why we have our own flag is because we are a independent nation, we are not under the control of Britain. So having a Union Jack in our flag is not necessary. Furthermore our flag resembles the New Zealand flag too much. Our flag is not unique enough for people to notice that we’re Australian. So by changing the flag , less confusion will occur.

It was not until after the second world war in 1967 that the Australian constitution was amended, and Aboriginal people were given the same rights as other Australian citizens (David Hill, 2014). Serving in the war gave Indigenous Australians pride within themselves and the confidence to stand up for the rights they deserved. Unfortunately, after the war there wasn’t any significant change in the social status of indigenous Australians. After fighting for their country for six years, they still came home to the same discrimination as before. Many were banned from Returned and Services League clubs, except on Anzac Day.…

1.0 Introduction As a nation, Australians have become a unique group of individuals, vastly different from the British who settled in this country. Australia is a multicultural continent with its own laws, constitution and systems, so why should Australians still be a part of the constitutional monarchy under Britain? Why should it not become a republic, and increase its independence? This report will investigate the currant system Australia operates under, and the suggestions that have been made in the past to change to a republic, to come to a conclusion on whether or not Australia should become a republic, or remain a constitutional monarchy.…

The American flag is the very definition of our country, our 50 united states, red for our valor, white is our purity, and the blue for our vigilance. It should be protected for what it stands for. It may be controversial due to the 1st Amendment and it’s freedom of speech, but I believe it gone through too much to be treated in such a way,…

Good Moring Mrs Davies and class, Celebrating our national day on the date of British settlement in 1788 has never been a date that brings all Australians together, no matter how many flags we wave or happy barbecues we may enjoy. Stan Grant. An indigenous journalist who travelled to all the nooks and corners of the world, stands up to talk about the Australian dream which was built on racism and discrimination of their people. In the article, I saw a man of Australia arguing strongly that the Australian dream is not for all. He upholds his stand by stating the obvious racism and discrimination toward the aboriginal people of Australia. A group of ethnically diverse people who were eliminated and isolated by people of their own country, labelling them as an outcast.…
