There were several guidelines to consider which included the attribution theory, self-fulfilling prophecy, and empathy. Each guideline brings its own set of attributes that are beneficial in interpersonal communication.
The single most useful guideline in my opinion is the power of perspective. No two people share the exact same experience, belief, or values. “Our perceptions are shaped by our beliefs, assumptions, goals, values, and expectations” (Fitch, B. 2016 p. 100).
