Reason For Pearl Harbor Essay

On December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked a U.S. naval base in Pearl Harbor, HI. This attack is what ultimately led the U.S. into World War II. When U.S. citizens are taught about the attack on Pearl Harbor they tend to only hear the horrifying stories of how the U.S. was surprise attacked and did nothing to provoke it. As horrible as it is due to the lives lost and damage caused to the United States’ Naval fleet the U.S. may have instigated and gave reason for Japan to attack. There are conspiracies that Japan attacked the U.S. in order to provoke us into war, some people say that it was completely un-called for and the U.S. did nothing wrong to deserve the attack, and others say the U.S. even knew about Japan’s idea and let it happen . Most U.S. citizens believed that WWII was a necessary war and Germany needed to be stopped, however the U.S. did not have a true reason to join the war other than to help the Allies. Because of this some people believe that the U.S. government knew all about the Pearl Harbor attack and did nothing to stop it in. Samuel Hynes, a retired pilot and author, says, “I never questioned the necessity of that war (WWII) and I still do not question that it was something that had to be done” . Even though there is more knowledge that the U.S. might have provoked Japan into an attack most Americans see this attack as a disastrous day and. There are still survivors alive who were present the day the Japanese came. Because of this, on December 7th there are many memorials and services to remember those still alive and the fallen soldiers.
