There are many different ways to use the word “impact” in multiple contexts, both positively and negatively. Dictionary.com defines “impact” as “ the striking of one thing against another; forceful contact; collision.” Another definition on Dictionary.com is “ influence; effect,” and also “an impacting; forcible impinging.” So there are many different definitions that can be used in numerous situations, it just has to be the right context. When I think of impact, I think of someone or something being a big influence or making an impression on, but I also think of impact as two physical objects colliding at vast speeds or with great force. You have to put the word “impact” into context first before you can determine if it is positive or negative. …show more content…
The game is constantly becoming safer each year because of new rules, but also new technologies that are released. The most important thing in football is the protection of a player’s brain. Some one can break an arm and heal, but your brain doesn’t work the same way. Each year there are 640,000-768,000 brain related injuries according to Sports Concussions Statistics on the Head Case website. The helmet is by far the most important piece of equipment in the game. The helmet is made of a polycarbonate material and with the helmet it has a PSIP(Patented Side Impact Protection) which is a liner installed in the sides of the helmet that reduce and absorb side impact. The liner inside absorbs the energy from a hit while it retains its position. The helmet can switch out different liners based on different head shapes as well. It also has a flex system and with this the facemask is on hinge clips to reduce stress from a hit on the facemask. The quick release system is so that at any given time you can remove the facemask within seconds. The facemask is made of a light but strong Stainless Steel and the chinstrap works off a ratchet style adjuster so the helmet properly fits and is comfy on the player’s head.
