The atmosphere of online social networks has been ever-changing organism. There are ways that the usage of Social Media can both be harmful to the user and beneficial, without the user being aware of it. The way that the user chooses to use a social network such as Facebook will determine whether or not the experience will be positive or negative. I will describe the positives of Facebook such as convenience, maintaining contact, and expressing yourself. I will also expand on these ideas and show some negatives that are found within the perception of these positive aspects. I will talk about the Ardono’s theory of the fetishizing of gadgets and how it relates to Social Networks, specifically to Twitter and Vine. I will also speak to how the

Most people choose to use Facebook as a means to stay connected with friends from all over and from years long past. “It’s just kind of a way of hanging on to some of those connections.” 1 We want to feel like what happens through the course of our interactions have meanings and can be something tangible or measurable. The friends list gives us a way to measure the contacts that we have. It is easy to find yourself surrounded by people you don’t want to hear from on Facebook. This brings us to trimming friends on Facebook can lead to a more fulfilling use of the network.2 Through Unfriending you can get to your “core” friends and hopefully experience meaningful interactions. There is an awkward zone of the people who you have Unfriended but still interact with occasionally, there is a strange taboo against cutting someone off your friend list. This brings us to the second positive about Facebook, the convenience. “You can sort of type a one-liner and that 's done.”1 It is very simple to organize and plan events that you would need people to RSVP for, rather than going after each person individually you use blanket coverage and get everyone at once. The issue this can cause is the loss of personal touches, if you are inviting someone to a party versus a wedding it all comes up looking the same when you find it through Facebook. With blanket coverage it also finds people that don’t care to be invited or that are even wanting to be invited to be caught in there. Facebook can also be a place where people find a need to show everyone who they want to be perceived as. You can make yourself appear active or wealthy, without even thinking of it. You may post photos of the concert that you and your friends went to last week to be a reminder of a good time. The reality is some people don’t care what you are doing in your life and find it annoying, or worse, they my wish they were there themselves and be left marinating with
