If I decide to fire Coach Calipari, it is inevitable that another “Power Five” university with lesser standards will give him a second chance, and they will most likely benefit from hiring him. Seeing that this does not greatly affect the University of Kentucky, this is only lightly considered. Although many fans may not like the decision that I have made, I believe the university will benefit from it in many ways. I believe the dismissal of Coach Calipari will assist in upholding the credibility of the athletic department. Ultimately, this decision sends the message that such violations are not condoned by the university, and that the athletic department will hold NCAA rule violators accountable for their actions. Under the umbrella of the NCAA, the university is not required to fire John Calipari, but it is implied that coaches who cheat should face harsh punishment.
