TA Group Analysis

From day one of coming to this institution and joining the business program, I have been exposed to life-changing cultures. A perfect example of this is my TA group. It is clear that whoever decided what kids went in what group did an excellent job in mixing different personalities. Although challenging at first, I am sure that all other groups, much like mine, have blended their cultures together and are more open-minded and globally aware as a result. When first seeing my group, I immediately separated my acquaintances in two different categories: those who spoke English, and those who spoke Spanish. This differentiation seems natural to me, however, looking back at it, I am now more culturally aware and can see that this was the wrong …show more content…
I know that I would rather things stay the way they are then have them change when it be in a social or cultural context. I need to be able to force myself to get out of my comfort zone and expand my surroundings. Being able to take risks will only further my understanding of business and what you can and cannot do. In all careers, but especially in business, experience trumps all. No matter how qualified someone is or how good their grades were, the person hired will always be someone who can prove that they have experience in the field and have learned from their mistakes throughout these experiences. It is my job and mission now to try and obtain as many experiences as I can using the multitude of resources that the University of Miami has to offer. In conclusion, my character and the beliefs and values that I bring to the table have been altered for the better as a result of working in my TA group as well as the introduction to business course. I can honestly and confidently say now that I am more culturally aware, am more culturally competent, and have the tools to be not just a better businessman, but also a man in

After reading the poem “Legal Alien” by Pat Mora I feel I can relate to her point of view with being bi-lingual and b-cultural. There are definitely more advantages than disadvantages when knowing more than one language. Being bi-lingual brings a lot of proud and respect from others like us (bi-lingual) and from ourselves too. When she talks about being Mexican, I can’t really relate to her because where I’m from, my country really support and admire bi-lingual. I do have friends who are ashamed and embarrassed to admit they know both languages, and honestly I feel embarrassed for them because knowing more than one language is such a privilege.…

As the world becomes more accessible and American society becomes more diverse, possession of cultural competence is becoming increasingly important. The chances of leading an organization or work team in which all members think like you, work like you, and have the same values as you are next to none, and ignoring these differences as a leader leads to dissatisfied employees, low productivity, and even lawsuits. Cultural competence is of utmost importance to anyone whose job brings them into contact with other people, whether coworkers or customers. Cultural competence is broadly defined as having a certain set of values, beliefs, and attitudes that allow one to function and manage well in a cross-cultural setting (National Center for Cultural Competence [NCCC], n.d.). The details of what this looks like vary depending on the field in which one is working.…

The Australian Curriculum is futures oriented. The overarching objective is to equip students with 21st century skills and a quest for lifelong learning (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2012, pp. 4, 5, 28). The challenge for teachers working at the crossroads of these varying discourses in the classroom is to translate the curriculum in a manner that places each student at the centre of teaching and learning in a encouraging and intellectually challenging manner. This paper will compare and contrast these various discourses within the Middle Years (Years 7 – 9) and Senior Years (Years 10 – 12) contexts.…

In my life, I have been blessed to be healthy, loved, and cared for. I do not consider myself to be in a position to say I have overcome adversity when there are many people that truly have. Nevertheless, I have overcome myself and realized who I am. Growing up, I have been surrounded by two cultures: Puerto Rican and American, my mother being Puerto Rican and my father being Scottish-Irish-American. Yet, I felt ashamed of my Hispanic culture, mostly because people never considered me as Puerto Rican by my physical appearance.…

Statistics show that the Mexican-American race has the highest number of people that populate the United States, and this demographic continues to grow even more. A Mexican-American is an American of full or partial Mexican decent. My parents, both born in Mexico, migrated to the United States in search of a better future for themselves and children. Because of my Hispanic roots, and my birth in the U.S., I am considered a Mexican-American. As a result of my equivalent exposure to two different cultures, I grew up being bilingual.…

The article goes on to talk about how the different languages that are spoken and not spoken using sign language may affect the culture you live in. How one set of words might mean something in one area and then something completely different in another. I feel that you language that you speak greatly influences your culture and vise versa. Of coarse we are all human and created equal, but just look at someone who speaks Spanish from Mexico and then one that speaks English from the South US.…

There are multiple ways in which my observational standpoint effected my TOC. One of the most unique perspectives I think that I bring to the TOC, which perhaps other members of my group do not bring is that I am very familiar with the Indian culture (because my family is from India) and therefore, I am able to bring a knowledge of a cultural perspective to our TOC-creation-process. I think that looking at various interventions through this lens is useful because I can get a better idea of what interventions will be more successful than others in this particular cultural context. In many ways, however, I do believe that this observational standpoint is blinding because firstly, I have to keep in mind that although I am familiar with South Indian…

Ever since I was born, I was raised by the same Latino family. I was taught how to speak both Spanish and English; Spanish was their primary goal mainly because it was our family’s main language. When I started kindergarten, no one else could speak Spanish so I really didn’t have any other choice but to stick to English. Later, however, we noticed that I got too comfortable with English. It eventually got to the point where I was beginning to become monolingual instead of bilingual.…

I noticed this two years ago when I moved here with my family. We can define and recognize people from other countries, but still we try to communicate in the best possible way and to learn the meaning of special words when we are talking to them. Inside the United States, we have lots of different communities, such as American, Black, Hispanic, and others. The interesting thing about this is that inside them we have lots of sub-communities which have their own dialects. For example, in American there are differences in speech in the different states, and even inside one state.…
