There are many benefits to nurses becoming a member of one or more professional organizations. Perhaps the best benefit is the support offered to members. There are many organizations in the nursing profession but one that particularly caught my attention is The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.

The first being the core purpose, or the association’s reason for existing and the core value, or the vital and persevering rule that guides an association, its practices and activities (Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, n.d.).
Core Purpose
The core purpose of ANAC is to develop proficiency and quality in nurses who are involved in the treatment of HIV. Its purpose is also to guarantee that nursing skill is perceived as a key component of a group of medical professionals that possess clinical expertise and the ability to work as a team and as such, are to be included when decisions are being made that affect the HIV community.

In decision making processes the ANAC depends on knowledge, which is grounded in evidence. Without the growth and spreading of knowledge the association cannot progress. The association believes that in order to reach their goals there must be collaboration, partnerships, and professionals working together to improve the outcome and satisfaction of patients and the community. The members of ANAC value advocacy for the patient, as well as, rights of all humans. They strive to ensure that all people fulfill their roles in society and get what society owes them. Members pursue support and encouragement from their collaborators.
