Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head. Abraham Lincoln, the loved 16th president of the United States, was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. John Wilkes Booth was an actor and southern sympathizer. On April 14, 1865 around 9:22 AM, five days after the end of the civil war, Booth attacked Lincoln in the Presidential Box of Ford’s Theatre. Both only knew that Lincoln was watching a play because Booth accidentally overheard it. Both, being an actor, knew his way around the theatre so he stepped into the presidential box and fired at Abraham Lincoln. After Booth injured Lincoln, he jumped onto the stage and made references to Brutus after the assassination of Caesar. Abraham Lincoln died on April 15th, 7:22 AM, the day after he was shot. The perspectives of Lincoln’s death were initially shocked from all. Later, some people believed that Lincoln was a tyrant, but in the end, it came to a consensus that Lincoln was the most important man in the United States.

After the death, “more than ten-thousand blacks paraded the city streets” (7). The African-American population cared so much about Lincoln that they flooded the city-streets to show their affection. Further more, Lincoln’s death would be the only topic controversial enough to rally the African-American’s together in 1865. The African American’s at the time cared so much because they felt that “[they] have lost their best friend on Earth” (7). Lincoln was their best friend because he was the main person who stood up for the African-American rights. As a result of Lincoln’s death, the African-American’s could celebrate their newly-acquired freedom in happiness.
