The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was a very tragic and unfortunate event that took place over a century ago. It had quite the impact on America and the entirety of American history, and to fully understand the entire concept one would have to dive a little deeper into some research. Some lesser known aspects could be exactly who did it, how exactly it happened, and what exactly happened to the perpetrator(s). Abraham Lincoln was killed in Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. on April 14th of 1865. He was attending a play, sitting in a Presidential balcony with his wife to the right. What better way to celebrate victory than to go enjoy a play? As formerly stated, Lincoln sat in his presidential balcony when John Wilkes Booth shot him in the back of the head. Booth then proceeded to jump off of the balcony onto the stage, break his leg in this process, then scream, “Sic Semper Tyrannis!” This exclamation is basically Latin for “Thus I always bring death to tyrants”, as Booth thought of Abraham Lincoln as a tyrant. After this strange act, he escaped from the theater. A doctor had been in the audience and ran to Lincoln’s balcony after hearing the shot and Mary Lincoln’s scream to find Lincoln paralyzed and struggling to breathe. Lincoln was then carried to a house across the street and placed in a bed to rest. A surgeon had finally arrived and came to the conclusion that Lincoln could not be saved and would pass at some point during the night. He was officially pronounced dead at 7:22 A.M. the next morning. During the procedure of Lincoln’s murder, Lewis Powell was assigned to kill the Secretary of State and George Atzerodt to vice president Andrew Johnson. Powell had attempted to stab the Secretary to death, but was unsuccessful. Atzerodt had rented a room directly above Johnson’s in a hotel, but ended up getting drunk and backing out of the
