Love At First Sight In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

As a young man or woman, love is a new concept that is often mixed up with attraction. People who experience the phenomena of “love at first sight” only find each other attractive. In the movie Romeo and Juliet, Romeo talks about how he has never seen a girl as beautiful as Juliet when he first lays eyes upon her. This means that he had found her beautiful and doesn’t necessarily love her. As a teenager, love is such a new abstraction and point of curiosity that teens do foolish things just to find out what love means to them. This is demonstrated in Act 2 Scene 1 when Romeo ventures to the Capulet’s garden only to find Juliet. Shakespeare portrays the curiosity of young people to find out what love is to them. In addition, by the end of the story, Romeo and Juliet both kill themselves because they believe that they can’t go on living without one another. My reasoning was teenagers do not have the ability to comprehend the difference between love and attraction. This is because teenagers haven’t had enough experience loving someone to know the difference. When I performed the scene, I was Romeo when he killed himself. I performed this part of the play melodramatically to express the idea that Romeo truly loved Juliet. Romeo and Juliet found each other by “love at first sight,” and Romeo expresses his true love for Juliet because he’d rather be with her in death than without her alive. Based on these events, Shakespeare conveys that love at first sight is real. Now, I believe that seeing someone and finding yourself wanting to be with them at first sight is possible, but getting to know the person is necessary to build a bond between you and your
