Aspects of Domestic Violence
Violence against women has been going on since B.C., and today’s society is no exception to it. Domestic violence is big and it is happening right now. The Centers for Disease Control reported in 2010, “on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States” (Black, et al). Yes, that is more than ten million people in a year! Like most things, domestic violence has multiple aspects to it. Domestic violence carries many aspects along with it, some which include stereotypes, why victims stay, how children are affected, and why abusers abuse.
Domestic violence carries many stereotypes along with it. When thinking of domestic violence, many will only think of physical abuse of a partner, such as hitting, pinching, or pulling hair. There is much, much more to domestic violence. Domestic violence can include any of the following: “extreme jealously, cruelty to animals, forced sex or disregard of their partner 's unwillingness to have sex, blaming the victim for anything bad that happens, controls all the finances, control of what the victim wears and how they act”; the list goes on and on (“Signs of an Abusive Partner”). The smallest things can point to a violent partner. Punching walls and throwing things is a sign of domestic violence. A partner threatening to harm themselves or their significant other is a sign of domestic violence. If one feels even slight fear of his or her partner for any…
