Dan Olweus, creator of Olweus Bullying Prevention Program and author of Bullying at School: What We Know and What We Can Do created a simple explanation. He defines bullying as: "A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons; and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself." However bullying is much more than just a definition. Bullying expands through several environments and across many avenues. It has lasting effects on those that experience this tragedy, especially children in their developing years. Through awareness, we can learn to recognize the signs of a bully or if someone or we are being bullied. Next is acceptance, this is no easy road. Many of us want to write off that someone is “just playing” or “didn’t really mean what they said/did”. We genuinely want to see the good in people. A famous quotes of Anne Frank is “…I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.” Finally, is taking action. Not in the form of fighting, back physically or in return becoming the bully, but knowing the proper resources and channels in your office/school/community against bullying and using them. Going to school administrators, going to supervisors and human resources at work and reporting to your local police are ways to take back control over your
