Why Do Angels Exist

Angels

I’ve never had a personal knowing experience with an angel but, I know they are real. I know they are real because the Bible says they are real. I also know they are real because cultures and people all over the world express accounts of encounters with angelic beings; angels that rescued them from danger, delivered a direct message from God, or gave comfort in a great time of need. In this essay, I will attempt to answer some questions on how, when, and where angels exist/operate. Although the Bible speaks frequently of angels it can also be somewhat vague. While there is a lot we don’t know about angels there is still plenty we do know. With that being said there may be a bit of speculation and a bit of personal opinion mixed in with the facts I will try, however, to keep it to a minimum.
So what are angels? Angels are “created, spiritual beings with moral judgement and high intelligence, but without physical bodies.” Angels were, like us, created directly by God for His own reasons. The fact that angels exercise moral judgement is shown to us by Lucifer who persuaded a third of the angels in heaven to rise up against God. Also there high intelligence is shown in there interactions with men and their worship to God. (Grudem, 397)

The angels’ first and most important job is to praise and worship God. Also, an angel’s specific job is linked to the type of angel it is; such as the cherubim, the seraphim, Michael the archangel, and Gabriel God’s highest ranking messenger. After that it would seem that there are various angels that have specific jobs such as: Angels of judgement, (Gen. 19:13; 2 Sam. 24:16; 2 Kings 19:35; Ezek. 9:1; Ps. 78:49) Angels designated as “watchers”, (Dan. 4:13, 23) the Angel of the abyss, (Rev. 9:11) the Angel with the power of fire, (Rev. 14:18) and the Angel with authority over water. (Rev. 16:5) (Law,

What is the difference between an angel and a demon? They began in the same place, and are powerful in doing what they want. Both are persuasive and influential in their dealings with others. The difference is their goals and their motives; angels protect kindness and order and demons advocate chaos and cruelty. Many times in literature, characters will represent the idea of angels versus demons. One such case is The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In this book, Simon represents all things good and orderly and Roger is chaotic demonspawn. Roger and Simon are foil characters in how they react to the same situations in conflicting ways. Simon is kind and graceful, the embodiment of all things good and civil; Roger is the cruelty of man…

Brontё’s speaker within the poem constantly battles between choosing religion over reason, as they continue to be in conflict throughout the poem. The irony of the angel’s assertion that Brontё’s speaker should not abandon reason shows this clash, for the irony lies in the fact that angels are usually associated with religion. Yet, the angel pushes towards reason. Furthermore, the speaker describes Beings Divine, a symbol of religion, to expose the uncertainties of religion still present, though Brontё’s speaker attempts to accept it. Therefore, “Plead for Me” is a prime example of religious doubt and uncertainty within the emerging modern…

The young sun burned so bright that my feeble eyes were no match. I shut them and let my other senses take hold. It smelled of pine and smoke and happiness. I burst with laughter as the cold water sent warm shivers down my spine. The river water curiously tasted like heaven. Only heaven and seraphs could come to that river. It was paradise. As I opened my warm eyelids, I concluded that Chloe was an angel, for her blonde hair was glowing like halo.…

The Bible speaks briefly of Lucifer's Rebellion, which is the battle between the envious angel, Lucifer, and God. The first class of sinners, the neutral angels, decided to not play a part in this fight, which would naturally create a layer of disorder. Since these angels did not pick a side, they were susceptible to temptation from both sides of the war, and this temptation could result in greater amounts of damage to the holy realm. For example, if an angel on God's side attempted to recruit a neutral force, who's to say the force will not get offended? Thus, in turn, the neutral force could react in a way that is detrimental to both himself, and the holy angel. This allows us to understand what Virgil meant by saying they were removed from Heaven to protect its beauty from impair. The secondary class of sinners made a mistake similar to this during their physical existence: neither choosing to worship a deity, nor opposing…

The study of angels (and demons) is often conflated with fantasy and apocalyptic imagination. As such, our artistic depictions of angels are replete with blonde haired white women holding harps and our discussions are full of doomsday imagery of a supernatural degree. It is interesting that as Christians embrace the gospels and the study of Jesus, there is often a “glossing over” when it comes to discussions about angels. The author raises the bar in terms of discussion and creates the spiritual and intellectual space to consider the role of angels in the…

The townspeople do not expect this kind of angel. They expect the “proud dignity of angels” (291). The townspeople proudly claim about their faith but do not pass the test when the old man falls into their nest. Meanwhile, Pelayo and Elisenda want to know what kind of creature this old man is. They call their neighbor who knows everything about life and death, and she tells them “He’s an angel” (289). However, Father Gonzaga does not agree. “ The parish priest had his first suspicion of an impostor when he saw that he did not understand the language of God or know how to greet His minister” (290). Father Gonzaga has lacked credibility regarding the issue of the religious faith; he worked as a woodcutter before becoming a pries and did not have official training. Father Gonzaga has to get help from his bishop because he does not know much about the bible or the word of God. Therefore, Father Gonzaga’s faith is worthless because he does not believe what was his eyes are seeing and keeps going with the flow of the townspeople. Another example of the townspeople is ignorance occur when a different creature comes to town ,“the spider woman”. They lose interest in the old man because the spider woman was able to speak their language and is able to explain her transformation. The townspeople decide to believe the spider woman more than the old man who is an angel sent from God to test them.…

In Genesis, chapter eighteen, Abraham comes into contact with three angels or messengers of God. There are many different interpretations of this specific event and Doerfler works through these interpretations in this article. She writes about and analyzes interpretations from early church fathers such as Justyn Martyr, Hilary, Ambrose, Augustine of Hippo, Origen, and Caesarius. Doerfler does not focus on what is happening in this chapter but rather on who is on the scene, the angels. There are different views, some more widely accepted than others, about who these three “angels” are and who they represent. Some believe that the numerical value of the angels represents the presence of the Trinity while others view the whole group…

The Bible tells us that Demons are fallen angels that followed after Satan when he decided to think he was higher than God. These angels could've stayed in heaven, but they didn't want to release the evil intentions they had. Demons are one third of the angles that left when Satan was kicked of of heaven. Like when God sends his angels to protect us, Satan will send out his demons to take out Christians and he will do his best to come against God and his people. Demons are like the great angles in heaven, they can take on the physical form because they are a spirit.…

[221] Before they were able to desert the angel they found quite the following gathered around the chicken coop where they had stashed the angel. The crowd surrounding the angel treated him as that of a “circus animal” [221] instead of a gift from the heavens. A priest quizzed the fallen winged man and threatened the amused crowd to not believe that the angel was as such. Many were coming from afar to glance at him as a freakshow star than as an angel. The continued to torture him, burning him, and stoning him. He would sit there with tears in his eyes. Finally the turmoil seized once the minor miracles that were attributed to the angel occurred. His reputation was now just mere mockery and boring. The actions of these characters that come to tease the angel prove that something fantastic and unworldly is merely for our entertainment until we bore with…

There are a wide variety of practiced religions and faiths throughout the world. Some of which are based around praying to or believing in a God.There are people of high religious beliefs who claim to have seen an angel or have had a spiritual encounter with their God. But there are people in the world who disregard the existence of angels or even a God. In the story of “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings”, the townsfolk believe to have an angel of God within their presence, though there no explanation that this is the case. It could be given that the main form of belief system in the story is that of the Catholic Faith. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses religious elements to suggest that the townsfolk might believe that the mysterious old man with…

Pelayo and Elisenda being the first characters to make assumptions after hearing him speak for the first time. They “intelligently concluded that he was a lonely castaway from some foreign ship wrecked by the storm” because they thought he had “an incomprehensible dialect with a strong sailor’s voice.” Only a few scenes later in the story, Father Gonzaga makes an assumption about the old man with wings based on the way he speaks as well. He decided to speak to the angel in Latin, what he assumed to be the language of God. Because the old man did not understand what the priest said, the priest had “suspicion of an imposter,” meaning there is no way that this “creature” was an angel. After he makes this assumption, he reminds the crowd surrounding the coop that the devil has disguised the man as a “carnival trick” in order to confuse the people who do not know any better. Towards the closing of the story, Pelayo and his family have found that the only thing that ever made him seem as if he was an angel was his “patience of a dog who had no…
